Chain of Love

It is not very often I get a phone call from my older sister, but when I do I try to answer the phone no matter where I am.

Today while I was at work she called and I happen to be by my desk. When I answered she said, " Do you know any country songs or singers?" Well I am not into country music but I do know a few songs but I am terrible at titles or singers names. She said, " I don't who sings it but I think the title is something like Hi I am Joe."

You know the song about the guy named Joe who helps a woman change her tire and won't let her pay him. He tells her to do something good for someone else and remember him when she does. Then she goes to a diner and meets a waitress who is pregnant and leaves her a big tip. But she doesn't know that she is Joe's wife.

I told her I knew the song but had no idea who sang it or the title. I then asked her why she was asking about it. She said "I had the strangest thing happen to me today."

She then went into her story about how she went to a new place to have her oil changed. She seen a man sitting in the waiting area and said hi to him but didn't really say much else. He sat there reading the paper and she just sat and waited till her car was done.

When they called her up to the service desk when her car was done she was ready to pay the bill. As soon she got to the desk the man got up and told the attendant she is not paying this bill, I am.

My sister said she was so shocked she didn't know what to say and she had know idea who the man was. She ask me how can I repay him if I don't know who he is. I told her I guess you just have to do like the song says:

You don't owe me a thing,

I've been there too
Someone once helped me out,

Just the way I'm helping you

If you really want to pay me back,

Here's what you do
Don't let the chain of love end with you.

Later this evening I called my son, who listens to country music a lot, and told me it was sung by Clay Walker and the title was Chain of Love. So of course I had to call my sister and let her know.

It is so refreshing to know that even in this time of an uncertain economy people are still out there helping others they don't even know.

To you my dear sir, whoever you are, you may never read this but you did a great thing today and I pray that God sends His Blessing upon you. You have added another link to the chain of love.

  1. I actually used this song in my classroom! The circle usually isn't small enough to make it back to us from where we start, but thankfully there are many links to that chain still out there! I have found many holding my life together lately!
